Remarks follow U.S. capture of Iranian vessel in Sea of Oman.
On Tuesday, the commander of the Central Headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya, Maj. Gen. Ali Abdolahi, asserted that Iran is prepared to respond decisively to any U.S. violation of the cease-fire.
“In full obedience to the directives of the supreme commander-in-chief, Mojtaba Khamenei,” the Armed Forces “are prepared to give firm, decisive and immediate responses to enemy threats and actions,” he said.
“The heroic nation of Iran today takes pride in the authority, readiness and comprehensive strategic capabilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other homeland defense forces, which have driven the Zionist enemy and the terrorist U.S. to despair and exhaustion with lethal and devastating missile and drone attacks, forcing them to desperately request a cease-fire,” Abdolahi said.
“The Iranian armed forces, with their superiority and advantage, will not allow the lying and delusional U.S. president to abuse the situation on the ground by creating false and misleading narratives on the ground in a context of complicit silence during the military battle, especially in the management and control of the Strait of Hormuz, and will respond forcefully to any breach of his promise,” he warned.
Abdolahi’s message came after the United States attacked and captured an Iranian vessel in the Sea of Oman on April 21, which has raised regional tensions and cast doubt on the holding of a second round of negotiations in Islamabad.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Vice President JD Vance is traveling to Islamabad to take part in those negotiations, but Tehran has not confirmed its participation. On Wednesday, the temporary cease-fire that the United States and Iran agreed to in early April expires.
The first round of peace negotiations, which was the highest-level meeting between the two countries since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, ended without an agreement to end the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran that began Feb. 28 or to guarantee free passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
