The non-governmental organization Oxfam called on the Colombian Government on Thursday to take efficient preventive measures in a context marked by violence against social leaders.
'We condemn the aggressions and more than 20 assassinations of social leaders so far this year. We urge the national Government to take efficient preventive measures in agreement with them and their communities,' the organization pointed out.
Oxfam also rejected the threats over the weekend against renowned figures of national politics, such as the Bogota mayor (Claudia Lopez), senators and human rights organizations.
We acknowledge the great work done by these organizations in their territories to seek peace, justice and truth. We call on the Government to take all measures necessary to guarantee life and work in the territories, Oxfam noted.
