White House Subpoenaed by House Dems for Impeachment Inquiry Documents

Democrats from the House of Representative Committee on Oversight and Reform, Intelligence Committee and Committee on Foreign Affairs have issued a subpoena to the White House requesting documents relevant to the House's impeachment inquiry be delivered within two weeks.

The subpoena, issued by Democratic Representatives Elijah E. Cummings, Adam Schiff and Eliot Engel called on acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney to cooperate with the oversight committee's investigation into the "extent to which [US President Donald Trump] jeopardized national security by pressing Ukraine to interfere with the 2020 election."

According to the chairmen, the documents were previously requested on September 9, but were never produced by the White House.

"After nearly a month of stonewalling, it appears clear that the President has chosen the path of defiance, obstruction, and cover-up,” the chairmen said in a Friday evening press release.

 The legal document noted that "failure or refusal to comply" by October 18 constitutes as evidence of the White House's obstruction of the impeachment inquiry.

US Vice President Mike Pence received a similar request to produce inquiry-related documents hours earlier. However, Pence's deadline is set for October 15.

While neither party has responded to the House Dems' demands, it was reported Thursday that the Trump administration was planning to pen a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, informing her that they not cooperate with any requests related to impeachment until there is full House authorization of the inquiry.
