Campaign Against Electoral Fraud Gathers Strength in Colombia

The #NoMasFraude campaign in Colombia is gaining strength on social media this Thursday, with just two months to go until regional elections in the country.

It is evident that the great problem of electoral fraud, the corruption that surrounds voting, must be counteracted by measures that make the whole procedure much safer and more reliable and, particularly, the essential moment when citizens cast their vote at a polling station, Alternative Democratic Pole Senator Ivan Cepeda said.

Experience has shown that there are different security mechanisms adopted in many countries and their effectiveness has been proven, Cepeda stated in a video posted on Twitter by Otra Voz Comunicaciones website.

Having the signature and fingerprint of a person at the time of voting is an indispensable security requirement, he argued.

Senator Gustavo Bolivar, of Decentes coalition, also joined the initiative on social media.

The regional elections will elect governors for the country's 32 departments, as well as lawmakers of the Departmental Assemblies, mayors of 1,099 municipalities, municipal councilors and councilors of the Local Administrative Boards.
