Bolivia: The US wants Venezuela to be devastated and impoverished

The president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Evo Morales, stressed on Wednesday that the US economic sanctions against Venezuela violate the Charter of the United Nations in which "the equality and sovereignty of States is recognized, as well as the self-determination of the villages".

"The threats of the United States against Venezuela are threats to peaceful coexistence in Latin America, they want to provoke confrontation between brothers with war and violence, and the empire wants Venezuela to be devastated and impoverished, as were Iraq and Libya," the president wrote on his account on the social network Twitter.

In addition, the Bolivian leader highlighted in another message that Latin America is a continent of peace that seeks to build its South American identity in terms of defense as well as rejected any attempt at intervention

"Latin America is a region of peace, we are once again proposing to build a South American identity in defense and we reject any intervention, we must promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts and a culture of peace in the continent and the world," he said.

The statements of the Bolivian head of state are made after last Monday the US State Department applied new unilateral sanctions to Venezuela, this time directed to the subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa), in the United States, Citgo.

In that sense, the Government of Venezuela rejected these measures and informed that it will begin with the legal actions and thus "face this new aggression and this inocultable imperial obsession to take control over the oil, mineral and financial resources".
