Julio Borges: Foreign intervention against Venezuela "must be serious"

Julio Borges –a Venezuelan opposition activist, who along with another opposition lawmaker Freddy Guevara are visiting some European countries calling for intervention against Venezuela– said during his visit to Spain that Venezuela needs much more "democratic pressure" from countries and a "serious international mediation."

Opposition politicians of right-wing parties Primero Justicia y Voluntad Popular (or Justice First and People's Will) played a role during their visits through the old continent as "president and first vice-president" of the National Assembly, although this body is held in contempt of court by decision of the Supreme Court of Justice, top legal body in Venezuela.

Prior to the meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, he said that "it is necessary to force the government to negotiate, not to stay in power, but to have a democratic transition," the EFE news agency said.

He said that Venezuela should not become "a Cuban franchise: without democracy, without human rights."

After his meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis, he dismissed the possibility of a political dialogue between the parties to overcome the crisis, since in his opinion "there are no conditions."

It is not the first time that the leader of Primero Justicia requests an early intervention on the country, including economic and financial blockades that would try, in his words, to put Venezuela under quarantine.

In the photographs published on the official Twitter of the Spanish government, people can see Freddy Guevara delivering a letter from Lilian Tintori, wife of Leopoldo Lopez, who could not travel because police officers found about 200 million bolivars in cash (about 60 thousand dollars to official rate) last week in her vehicle. For this reason, and while the investigations are taking place, she was banned on leaving the country.

Earlier, the international pro-blockade delegation met with the presidents of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the Senate, Gerard Larcher.
