Govt. insists on national dialogue to preserve country's peace

Caracas, 25 Abr. AVN.- Socialist leader Jorge Rodriguez reaffirmed Monday the commitment of the Venezuelan Government to respect what was agreed in the national dialogue, in order to safeguard public security and preserve the peace of the country.
"We have told the opposition in different ways, in private and public meetings. We are ready for all the points of the agreements of the dialogue table to be implemented," Rodriguez said in his weekly TV show.
In October 2016, the Venezuelan opposition accepted the president's call to work together at a dialogue table for the peace of the country and supported by the Vatican, UNASUR and former presidents Jose Rodriguez Zapatero (Spain), Leonel Fernandez (Dominican Republic) and Martin Torrijos (Panama).
After the first meeting, four thematic committees were formed: 1. Peace, respect for the rule of law and national sovereignty; 2. Truth, justice, human rights, victims reparation and reconciliation; 3. Economic and social issues; and 4. Confidence-building and election schedule.
Despite these working tables were set up with the wink of the opposition, they walked out of talks and some leaders of this political sector activated this month violent street actions to create a climate of ungovernability to foster a foreign military intervention.
In view of that, Rodriguez repudiated the violent actions –launched by the Venezuelan right in the last days– that have left more than 20 people dead across different states of the country.
"I join the call of President Nicolas Maduro, no more violence, no more death, no irresponsibility, no call to violence, to death. It is false that there are arguments for their violence ... There is no argument for violence, for hatred," said the also mayor of Caracas.
"If we manage to get peace to prevail, it would be the victory of all," he added.
The Venezuelan right has called for street actions that have ended in vandalism by groups financed by this sector, gangs that have caused damage to more than 500 private business premises, public health facilities and public road works.
