Haiti Sends 31‑Member Medical Mission to Venezuela After Deadly Earthquakes

Haiti dispatched a medical mission of 31 health professionals, doctors, and specialists to Venezuela on Tuesday to assist after the June 24 earthquakes which have killed at least 3,685 people and injured 16,740, according to a government statement and the latest Venezuelan authorities’ tally.

The mission is led by Minister of Public Health and Population Sinal Bertrand. The government said the gesture reaffirms Haiti’s conviction that solidarity becomes a duty in the face of suffering, noting that Haiti understands the pain of disaster‑stricken nations and chooses to extend a hand despite its own challenges.

The government expressed confidence in Venezuela’s ability to overcome the tragedy.

Haiti’s gesture comes as the country faces a severe crisis, with gangs controlling about 75% of Port‑au‑Prince’s metropolitan area and UN data reporting at least 2,310 deaths and 1,106 injuries in the first five months of the year.
