Argentinian University Unions Call New Federal March to Demand Funding Law Implementation

University unions and student federations at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) have confirmed a new Federal March for next Tuesday, the 12th, to demand the implementation of the University Funding Law and salary restoration for faculty and staff.

The mobilization, set to head toward Plaza de Mayo, is being promoted under the slogan “for education, public universities, and national science.” Organizers stressed on social media: “We must once again be thousands in the streets defending our future.”

A video shared by the Faculty of Exact Sciences shows images of previous demonstrations and the approval of the University Funding Law in 2025, which the Milei administration has failed to implement. In the call to action, protesters argue: “They decided not to listen to us. No one should be above the law. You have already decided; the Argentine people have already decided. That is why we must be more than ever in the streets to ensure what we have already achieved is fulfilled.”

During the first months of the academic term, various protest measures have taken place, ranging from public classes to union job actions. On Tuesday, teaching hospitals affiliated with UBA held a new protest against the government’s non-compliance, warning that “if things continue this way, in a month and a half we will no longer be able to continue operating.”

In a broader context of rising street conflict, the Union of Popular Economy Workers (UTEP) has called for a separate national day of protest this Thursday. That action, which includes blocking access routes in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, demands an increase in the complementary social wage.
