Thousands of Nicaraguans in cities and small towns to stage a massive demonstration for peace and in rejection of violence.
Convened by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSNL), people of all generations took to the streets the day before in an athmosphere of joy, accompanied by revolutionary songs.
During the march, paticipants emphazised that peace is not only a right, but a conquest that must be defended every day, and that this national walk symbolizes the firm will of a nation determined to move forward in harmony.
According to Deputy Walmaro Gutiérrez, president of the Economic and Budget Commission of the National Assembly, peace is the country’s fundamental asset, guaranteeing the implementation of responsible macroeconomic policies, the strengthening of the córdoba, the increase in exports, and other economic development indicators in Nicaragua.
The Day of Peace in Nicaragua recognizes the commitment of men and women who, throughout history, have defended national sovereignty. In April 2018, violent groups, with the complicity of the U.S., attempted to break the constitutional order through a failed coup d’état, after years in which the northern country and the European Union financed a pseudo-opposition that led the incitement to disorder. The events left numerous fatalities and significant damage.
