Ibero-American Congress on Cultural Education to Be Held in May

It seeks to translate international agreements into concrete cultural policies.

The Ibero-American Congress on Artistic and Cultural Education ‘Arts for Peace 2026’ will be held in Bogota from May 13 to 15 at the Delia Zapata Olivella National Arts Center.

Convened by the Colombian Ministry of Culture, Arts and Knowledge and the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), it is supported by UNESCO, the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).

The objective is to translate international agreements into “concrete actions” that strengthen cultural public policies, recognizing culture as a human right and a global public good.

Mariano Jabonero, Secretary General of the OEI, emphasized that arts education fosters critical thinking, creativity, and social awareness, forming conscious citizens who respect diversity and are committed to inclusive societies.

The text reads,”Pasto opens the 7th Latin American and Caribbean Congress of Living Community Cultures, a meeting that brings together delegations from Ibero-America on a route through Nariño, Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Antioquia to strengthen cultural governance, community participation and peacebuilding from the territories.”

Colombia has made significant progress thanks to the Arts for Peace program, which has benefited more than half a million children across the country by expanding access to arts education.

Culture Minister Yannai Kadamani stated that the Congress will enable the sharing of pedagogical experiences, public policies, and regional legislation to develop a comprehensive vision for arts education.

One of the main expected outcomes is the consolidation of the Ibero-American Network of Arts and Cultural Education (RedArtes), a cooperation platform for knowledge exchange and the strengthening of cultural public policies.
