Venezuela’s acting president calls for an end to sanctions as a nationwide pilgrimage advances toward Caracas.
Acting president says national mobilization will continue until all sanctions on Venezuela are lifted
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez on Wednesday called for the removal of sanctions on Venezuela as she joined the National Grand Pilgrimage in La Guaira, part of a nationwide mobilization that began on April 19 and has crossed multiple regions of the country.
Speaking to representatives of social, political and economic sectors, Rodríguez described the initiative as a process of collective reflection and spirituality in response to unilateral coercive measures. “The time has come for Venezuela to be free of sanctions. The time has come for our people to breathe,” she said.
She stressed that the mobilization will not conclude until all sanctions are lifted. “This pilgrimage will not end until the last sanction against Venezuela is lifted,” Rodríguez stated, framing the movement as an expression of sovereignty, dignity and independence.
Rodríguez also referred to the impact of external actions on La Guaira, recalling what she described as direct attacks and financial restrictions affecting the region. “I say it here, in a state that suffered the attack of a nuclear power in our hemisphere. Here in La Guaira, people felt missiles fall and bombs,” she said, citing testimonies from children in affected areas linked to the events of January 3.
She called for unity beyond political divisions and emphasized the need to prioritize national interests. “I dream of a powerful Venezuela, which is why I am not thinking about a political party. I am thinking about Venezuela,” she said, urging what she described as a “politics with a capital P.”
Economic recovery and sovereignty
Rodríguez said lifting sanctions would allow children to access quality education, ensure comprehensive care for older adults and enable social movements and industrial platforms to expand productive capacity.
She also called on Venezuelan youth living abroad to return and contribute to national development.
The mobilization is expected to conclude in Caracas in the coming hours, consolidating demands for the removal of financial and commercial measures that, according to authorities, affect the country’s development.
Unity for regional development
At Jorge Luis García Carneiro Stadium, Rodríguez urged citizens to draw inspiration from historical figures Josefa Joaquina Sánchez and Manuel España and work collectively toward national development. “Do not let hatred or resentment divide us. Let us work together for Venezuela to turn it into the great power it is called to be,” she said.
She reiterated the government’s demand to Washington for the full lifting of coercive measures. “End the blockade now and let Venezuela breathe and fly free,” Rodríguez said, adding that the mobilization will continue until all sanctions are removed.

Earlier in the day, Rodríguez also visited Aragua state, where she called for the immediate lifting of 1,081 foreign sanctions, which she described as a “financial suffocation” affecting the Venezuelan population.
