More than three weeks of protests in Colombia, and actions follow

After more than three weeks of protests in Colombia, this Thursday the actions continue because the meetings between the Strike Committee and the government are still without results.

In the petition submitted to the Presidency of the Republic, the Committee called for the dissolution of the Mobile Riot Squad, which has come under criticism for what many saw as an excessive use of force during protests, and the purging of the National Police.

In addition, the Committee requested the government not to pursue any process of privatization or disposition of State property regardless of its shareholding.

However, a presidential decree was issued which, in the opinion of many, opens the door to the privatization of public enterprises.

The Committee requested the Executive to initiate with the respective organizations the implementation and fulfillment of the agreements signed, and to process with the Colombian Agricultural Dignity institution those cases related to the needs of agricultural producers, including the revision of Free Trade Agreements and everything related to production in that sector.
