Sergio Micco, director of the National Institute of Human Rights (NHRI), asked the state institutions to request an international expert opinion on the elements used by police in social protests registered in Chile in the last weeks.
INDH observers have verified that by the repression of police forces against protesters, 27 people have been injured by pellets, 38 by bullet shots, 288 by unidentified firearms and 402 by pellets.
In total there are more than 700 people with injuries as a result of the equipment available to the police to impose control of public order after the social outbreak of October 18 against the government's neo-liberal policies.
In statements to the media, Micco considered that 'the most responsible thing is to ask for an international expert opinion on the composition of the objects that are thrown, be they pellets, rubber pellets or metal'.
This would also allow knowing the composition, power, pressure and amount of gunpowder of the tear pumps, he explained.
A report by NHRI observers with data collected until October 30 indicates that 167 lawsuits have been filed since the protests began two weeks ago.
Of these, five are for homicide, 120 for torture, and of these 18 for sexual violence, while the NHRI staff has directly registered four thousand 271 people detained in police stations and 1,035 wounded.
