Peru: Nearly 25 million will be able to vote in legislative elections

Some 25 million Peruvians over the age of 18 are eligible to vote in the legislative elections of January 2020, according to the electoral roll received on Tuesday by the National Jury of Elections (JNE).

The register delivered by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) contains a total of 24 million 812 thousand 87 voters, a figure that includes 165 thousand 755 children who will turn 18 before the elections on January 20 of next year.

The JNE will henceforth have to purify the information, which includes 972,248 emigrated voters, who will vote abroad.

Of that figure, 23 million 839,839 reside in the national territory and 972,248 declared living abroad, said Reniec.

For the debugging, the JNE will publish the lists of voters next week, so that citizens can verify if their data appear correctly and delete the names of the deceased.

In the elections the replacements of the 130 members of the Congress of the Republic dissolved by President Martin Vizcarra on September 30 will be elected in the use of their constitutional faculties.
