Russian Senator Konstantin Kosachev this Monday raised the need to sanction the United States for its economic restrictions on Venezuela, and also the possibility that the US President Donald Trump considered implementing a naval blockade against that South American nation.
The head of the International Committee of the Federation Council (Upper House of the Russian Parliament) noted that it is time for 'the true international community to impose sanctions', referring to Washington's supposed intention to set up a naval blockade on Venezuela.
The US media outlets highlighted this Monday that Donald Trump explained to his advisors to study the possibility of undertaking a naval blockade against Venezuela.
The Russian senator recalled that US sanctions are causing the death of civilian patients in Venezuela, and those responsible for these deaths do not seem to stop.
Kosachov stated that it is not the first time that Donald Trump eyes up the idea of establishing a naval blockade to Venezuela, similar to the one imposed on Cuba in 1962.
The Russian parliamentarian said that, according to recent information, the Pentagon does not consider this option as realistic, since Venezuela is not an island like Cuba and the measure is unlikely to work.
In early August, the White House acknowledged it has already imposed 30 packages of sanctions against some 200 citizens and businesses in Venezuela.
Kosachov said that due to such measures and the confiscation of funds, the Bolivarian Executive is nowadays facing great limitations to acquire dozens of medicines and food shipments abroad.
He also explained that as a result of such sanctions, 300,000 doses of insulin paid by Russia could not reach Venezuela because a US bank refused to carry out the transaction.
He recalled that the financial institution 'Euroclear confiscated $1.5 billion from Venezuela accounts last year, money destined to the purchase of food and medicine.'
