Colombia's FARC Party confirms commitment to peace

The President of Colombian party Common Alternative Revolutionary Force (FARC), Rodrigo Londoño (Timochenko), reiterated today that 'the great majorities remain committed to what has been agreed, even with all the difficulties or dangers ahead, we are with peace.'

Londoño's statements follow the announcement of a group of leaders of the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP), in which they announce the beginning of a new stage of struggle in response to the 'betrayal by the Colombian State of the Peace Accords' signed in 2016.

In this sense, Ivan Marquez invoked the 'universal right of peoples to rise up in arms against oppression.'

In images published in the press, Marquez is seen with Jesus Santrich and Hernan Dario Velasquez, nicknamed El Paisa, who are facing ongoing cases before the Special Jurisdiction for Peace.

For his part, Londoño emphasized that 'despite the obstacles and difficulties, we are convinced that the path to peace is the right one.

One thing that Manuel Marulanda (founder of the FARC-EP) taught us was to keep our word. Our word today is peace and reconciliation,' he stressed.

More than 90 percent of former guerrillas remain committed to the peace process, he added.
