The analysis of front page articles of the U.S. Hispanic and Latin American mainstream media showed this Wednesday the gross censorship against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and the legitimation of a military intervention in the Caribbean country.
Despite the great attention given daily to Venezuela's political crisis in the hegemonic press and the press conference offered to international media on Tuesday, only 1 out of the 55 newspapers analyzed by the Ministry of Communication and Information (46 of the Latin American region, 5 of Spain and 4 of the United States) showed on the front page information related to President Maduro's statements at his three-hour meeting with foreign correspondents accredited to the country.
In contrast, 13 (out of 14) drew attention to the flight of former prosecutor Luisa Ortega Diaz and her threats against the revolutionary government, the military option as "necessary" to "channel democracy" and the suspension of the National Youth Orchestra tour to U.S.
The U.S. media, published in Spanish, El Nuevo Herald and Diario de las Americas, have shown on the front page two articles where they legitimize, through their spokesmen-sources, a United States military intervention against the Venezuelan people.
"Ramon Muchacho: He does not rule out a military option," says El Nuevo Herald, while the heading of Diario las Americas titled, "Analysts: A military operation is necessary to overthrow Maduro."
The front pages of the analyzed newspapers standing out for their bias against the Bolivarian Revolution are Bolivia's El Diario (Ortega will show evidence that incriminate Maduro), Colombia's El Tiempo (editorial The prosecutor left the "revolution").
Colombia's newspaper El Espectador (main headline and great photo The secrets of Luisa Ortega), Colombia's La opinion (Brazil and Chile the destinations of ex-prosecutor and Colombian jurists) and Spain's El Pais (Maduro vetoes US tour of orchestra of Dudamel after criticism).
Only Uruguayan newspaper El Pais published a headline about the press conference of the Venezuelan president: Maduro requests capture of general prosecutor to Interpol.
"The scheme is simple: for mercenary journalism, the "dictator Maduro" today replaces "the weapons of mass destruction" of Saddam Hussein in 2003," said Carlos Fazio, an Uruguayan journalist, in his piece Media against Venezuela or The commissaries of the single thought.
Emir Sader, a Brazilian sociologist and political scientist, says that "the worst lies are those that deny the existence of what is not wanted to be known." He complains that manipulations, double standards and systematic bias are done blatantly.
"That model of propaganda –usually dichotomous or Manichaean, for example: "dictator Maduro vs. the democratic opposition of the MUD," the Chavista hordes vs. the freedom fighters of D. Trump– shows that the "social purpose " of the media is to instill and defend the economic, social and political agenda of the privileged groups," he says.
It is noteworthy that in the press conference censored by the world hegemonic press, Maduro spoke on the diplomatic relations with the USA after the threats of a military intervention; the willingness to dialogue with the opposition and the regional right-wing governments; as well as the former prosecutor Luisa Ortega Diaz, a fugitive from justice.
