76 parties nominated candidates for Venezuela's regional elections


A total of 76 political parties, 21 on a national scale and 55 on territorial (operating in one state) scale, participated in the nomination process the National Electoral Council (CNE) carried out for the regional elections scheduled for October.

The political organizations that applied to the 23 states are the following: the Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), Accion Democratica (AD), People's Will (VP), Progressive Advance (AVP), Independent Political Electoral Organization Committee (COPEI), Movement for Socialism (MAS), Justice First (PJ), New Revolutionary Ways (NCR), Authentic Renewing Organization (ORA), Patria Para Todos or Homeland for All (PPT), For Social Democracy (PDS), Revolutionary Movement Tupamaro, People's Electoral Movement (MEP) and Un Nuevo Tiempo or A New Time (UNT).

The Political Movement Alliance for Change (Mpapc) and New Vision for My Country (NUVIPA), nominated candidates in 22 federal states, according to a CNE press release.

On the other hand, Popular Political Unit 89 (UPP89) and Party Union and Understanding (Puente)
submitted applications in 21 states while the Independents for Progress party (IPS) did the same in 20 states and Venezuelan People's Union (UPV) in 19 states.

For these elections, the Electoral Power received 800 nominations of candidates, of which it accepted 226 related to the 23 states of the country. Merida and Tachira are the states with the largest number of hopefuls, with 14 candidates each.
