Venezuela to boost nickel and coal production in alliance with China

AVN.- The Venezuelan government has signed a strategic alliance with three Chinese companies that will invest US $ 180 million in mining in the company Lomas de Niquel, said Jorge Arreaza, Venezuela's Minister for Ecological Mining Development on Tuesday.
He said they agreed on a $400 million deal with the company Carbozulia, as part of the efforts to strengthen the mining activity as an economic alternative for the development of the country.
"We are going to increase nickel production in 20 years to 12 thousand tons and the production of coal to 8.2 million tons," he said in statements to state media.
He explained that the alliance, unlike the agreements signed in the previous governments of the so-called Fourth Republic, does not consist in transferring state property to private or international companies, but in seeking financing, knowledge and technologies for a certain time in order to diversify the economy of the country.
