Nearly 80% of Venezuelans reject interference in domestic affairs

AVN.- A survey conducted by polling firm Hinterlaces said that about 80% of Venezuelans reject international interference in the country's internal affairs, stressed Hinterlaces president, Oscar Schemel, on Sunday.

Interviewed by journalist Jose Vicente Rangel in his weekly TV analysis show, Schemel said that 60% of the population rejects that general secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, is promoting the application of the Inter-American Democratic Charter against Venezuela, in order to create a scenario conducive to a foreign intervention.

In this regard, he said that a possible military intervention in the nation is equally rejected by 90% of the citizens, who, to the same extent, support the dialogue between the National Government and the political opposition, initiated by president Nicolas Maduro.

"66% consider that the dialogue between the government and the opposition is very important to solve the problems," he said in local television.

He pointed out that because of this, Venezuelans are pinning their hopes on a conciliatory leader, which is why "the immense support for the dialogue table, the dialogue agenda between the Government and the opposition, and fundamentally between the Government and the private sector," in order to overcome the economic situation.

Poll firm president underscored the people also sense that the opposition "is absent from the national debate, absent from the agenda of problems and solutions. The opposition practically disappeared from the public debate" and the people's demand on solutions.

According to Schemel, "it is a terrible mistake (by the opposition) to raise the international banners of OAS, international intervention, international interference, because in addition to being unfeasible and causing a majority rejection, it is not connected with the agenda of Venezuelans, who are looking for leaders and alternatives that offer solutions, proposals and programs. That is the great weakness of the leadership of the opposition, which is still absent from the fundamental debate that is now on the street, in the daily life of Venezuelans."
