Qatar, UAE airlines suspend flights to Saudi cities

Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways halt or cancel services to Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah following reported security incidents and operational disruptions.

Qatar Airways and the United Arab Emirates' Etihad Airways have suspended or canceled flights to several Saudi Arabian cities over security concerns and operational disruptions, according to statements from the airlines.

On Monday, Qatar Airways announced the temporary suspension of flights to and from Riyadh and Dammam.

"Due to the current situation, flights to and from Riyadh (RUH) and Dammam (DMM) are temporarily suspended," the airline said.

Etihad Airways, meanwhile, canceled all flights between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh through October 19. The airline also canceled a number of flights to Jeddah and Dammam for several days, citing operational disruptions.

The decisions follow a security incident at Riyadh's airport. On Saturday, Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said the airport had come under a new attack, resulting in injuries and its closure.

The airlines' announcements did not provide further details linking the flight suspensions directly to the reported attack.

Yemen warns against Saudi airspace

On Sunday, the Yemeni Armed Forces' Spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree reiterated that companies and individuals who use Saudi airports and airspaces are vulnerable to retaliatory targeting.

"The Yemeni Armed Forces renew their warning to all airlines, aviation companies, experts, employees, workers, and travelers against using Saudi airports and airspace, as they are liable to be targeted and may become a theater of operations by our forces, with the exception of the airports of Mecca and Medina," Saree said.

He called on everyone to not belittle Sanaa's warning as Saudi Arabia will bear the responsibility for damages if its air defenses fail to intercept YAF projectiles.

"The Yemeni Armed Forces reaffirm that they will continue to enforce the declared equations: airport for airport, blockade for blockade, and escalation for escalation, until their objectives are achieved," he said.
