Israel Demolishes Buildings in Khan Yunis and Opens Fire on Gaza

Palestinian authorities reported that the death toll in Gaza has exceeded 200,000 since 2023, as a result of increased Israeli attacks.

The Israeli occupation continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip in violation of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in October 2025.

Israeli forces carried out several attacks in various areas of the Gaza Strip on Friday February 13, in a new violation of the ceasefire agreement.

East of the city of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, Israel is conducting an operation to demolish residential buildings, while in Gaza City, military vehicles opened fire east of the neighborhoods of Tuffah, Shuja’iyya, and Zeitoun. At the same time, Israeli warships also fired on the city from the sea.

Palestinian authorities reported that the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 200,000 since 2023, as a result of the increased Israeli attacks. The death toll could be even higher, as numerous bodies remain under the rubble of destroyed buildings, inaccessible to rescue teams.

This information was corroborated by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and supported by experts such as Stuart Casey-Maslen, head of the Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in Geneva.

The high number of deaths has prompted urgent appeals from international organizations. Casey-Maslen stressed the need to guarantee immediate humanitarian aid, including food, drinking water, safe shelters, and access to basic medical services.

The expert also noted that, in addition to assistance, a safe evacuation of the displaced and wounded is essential, as conditions worsen with each passing day due to the ongoing attacks. “People are still dying in Gaza”, he stated.

Meanwhile, international negotiations are expected to determine the future of the territory. One of the key points is the partial withdrawal of Israeli forces, which currently occupy nearly 50 percent of Gaza, a measure that would form part of the second phase of the ceasefire announced in January.

While the agreements remain unfulfilled, the death toll continues to rise. Since October 2023, 72,045 Palestinians have been killed and 171,686 wounded, according to official figures, in addition to thousands of people trapped under rubble due to the inability of ambulances and civil defense teams to access the area.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical, marked by a lack of access to basic resources and the urgent need for international measures to stem the loss of life.

United Nation’s Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday urged Israel to immediately allow large-scale humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and facilitate the evacuation of Palestinians requiring specialized medical attention abroad, during 2026 Opening Session of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

“I also call for the facilitation of rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief at scale – including through the Rafah crossing,” Guterres said during an address at UN headquarters in New York.

This critical call comes as over 100 sick and wounded Palestinians gather at the recently reopened Rafah crossing, desperately seeking medical treatment outside the besieged territory.
