This gathering will advance food sovereignty, participatory democracy, and a diversified economy.
On Tuesday, Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed that the “Great National Meeting of the Communal Economy” will be held as planned by President Nicolas Maduro before he was kidnapped by U.S. forces on Jan. 3.
“President Maduro set Feb. 4, 2026, for this meeting. So everyone get ready. All communes and communal councils must begin preparing for this great event,” she said and recalled that this event seeks to consolidate productive linkages among territories and to map the nation’s communal economy.
Viewed from a broader perspective, the Great National Meeting of the Communal Economy also seeks to ensure supplies for the population and strengthen participatory democracy in the country.
During a visit to the Hugo Salas Socialist Commune in the La Vega parish, Rodriguez also underscored that Venezuela is undergoing a process to strengthen communal democracy and expand community participation in national life.

Angel Prado, minister of Communes, Social Movements, and Urban Agriculture, said the Communal Agri-Food Plan will be presented on the same day as the meeting. He highlighted progress in the planting and processing of sugarcane as part of policies aimed at promoting food sovereignty.
The work of numerous women in the municipality of Cumanacoa has served as a driving force to supply the Communal Agri-Food Plan, Prado said, adding that industrialized products derived from this work will be distributed to all community stores nationwide.
The Communal Agri-Food Plan aims to activate 200,000 communal hectares, integrate local economic circuits, and strengthen popular organization. Its objective is to replace imports and ensure food supplies across the country.
Following instructions from President Maduro, the Venezuelan government is currently seeking to foster a diversified economy that does not depend on oil revenue.
