Sergei Shoigu and Wang Yi warned against rising militarism during Moscow talks.
On Tuesday, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said Russia and China will not allow the resurgence of “criminal regimes” in Europe and Japan.
“The hydra of militarism is raising its head again. But Moscow and China have accumulated enough experience to stop it. We will not allow the resurgence of criminal regimes in Europe and Japan,” Shoigu said during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Shoigu, who previously served as defense minister, stressed that Beijing agrees that attempts to falsify history are “unacceptable.” “This is especially important given the growing desire in some European countries and Japan for revenge over past defeats,” he said.
Wang emphasized that Russia and China are united against any attempt or statement that “contradicts historical truth.” “We must remain alert to efforts to revive Japanese militarism and fascism. It is important to reject such attempts,” the Chinese diplomat added.

During the meeting, Shoigu reaffirmed Moscow’s consistent and unwavering support for Beijing on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong. He also stressed that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government and represents all of China.
He highlighted that Russian-Chinese coordination in the field of strategic security plays a “crucially stabilizing role” and helps shape a “fairer world order, one that does not allow privileged positions for certain countries or their dominance in global affairs.”
Shoigu and Wang’s meeting is part of the 20th round of Russian-Chinese consultations on strategic stability.
