US blockade affects children and the sick in Syria

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad on Monday denounced the negative effect of the blockade imposed by the government of the United States and its western allies on the Syrian people.

The coercive unilateral economic sanctions and measures affect both children and the sick, and for Washington, food and medicine must be a hard-to-reach dream for Syrian citizens, the diplomat denounced in statements to the press during a reception on the Day of the Republic of India.

He also stated that Syria is recovering and has begun the rebuilding phase in which, according to him, only friends involved in the fight against terrorism will participate.

New Delhi has expressed its wishes to defy all inhumane measures imposed by the West to isolate Syria, and Indian companies have already begun projects to expand Syrian electric power plants, said the deputy foreign minister.

As for the current military operations in Idlib and Aleppo, Mekdad commented that the Syrian Army is fulfilling its constitutional duty of protecting and saving citizens from the claws of terrorism.
