Ecuador hosts 12th Global Forum on Migration and Development Summit

Ecuador is hosting from Tuesday to Friday in Quito the 12th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit, attended by more than 1,500 national and international delegates.

The event, scheduled until January 24, is being held at the Metropolitan Convention Center, in the Bicentennial Park, in Quito.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the opening session, scheduled for the afternoon, is attended by senior officials from international organizations such as Antonio Vitorino, director general of the International Organization for Migration, and Asako Okai, secretary and director of the United Nations Development Program Bureau for Crisis.

Ecuadorian Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner, acting Foreign Minister Christian Espinosa, and GFMD ambassador and president Santiago Chavez chair the opening forum.

State ministers and representatives from 150 countries, among government officials, civil society members, the private sector, local and regional authorities, international organizations, youth and academics, are also attending the summit.

According to local authorities, the 12th GFMD Summit is a space for constructive dialogue on migration and development.
