Deadly floods uproot thousands in Central African Republic

Heavy flooding in the Central African Republic and other east African countries has left at least 21,000 people homeless, according to official reports.

In addition to this human tragedy, the torrential rains have destroyed fragile buildings where the most disadvantaged sectors reside and flooded the camps in which thousands of people displaced by military conflicts between the Army and armed opposition groups in the north of the country are housed.

Some of those displaced by heavy rains in this capital are being sheltered by family members, according to a report from the International Organization of Migration, announcing the establishment of a thousand shelters.

According to reliable estimates, the country has some 4 million internally displaced people due to the conflict, a solution to which is pending within a 100-day deadline agreed by the two sides at the end of last week during a meeting sponsored by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
