Putin comments NATO maneuvers in Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin reacted calmly today to the start of maneuvers of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), an issue addressed here at the summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States ( CIS).

Recently, Russia also made great maneuvers (Center-2019), with the participation of at least eight countries and 128 thousand military, but we did it in the depth of Russian territory, said the president.

We believe that the exercises of the United States and the Atlantic alliance in Europe are harmful, but our reaction is completely calm, Putin said, while meeting here with his colleagues from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

In the Central-2019 exercises, countries such as China, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Belarus and Kazakhstan contributed their strength to rehearse a joint anti-terrorism operation.

The NATO headquarters could carry out the Defender-2020 war games next spring, with more than 20 thousand uniformed in the Atlantic Ocean and considered the largest of the last 25 years, says the German magazine Spiegel, cited here by the agency RIA Novosti.

Within the framework of the CIS summit, heiress of the Soviet Union, its assistants signed the Declaration of Strategic Economic Cooperation.

Turkmenistan, as host of the meeting, proposed the rubric of the aforementioned document, called to strengthen the competitiveness of national economies and effectively use the socio-economic potential of each of the member states of the regional body.

In addition, the declaration refers to the strengthening of the economic-commercial links of the CIS countries, from whose organization Ukraine and Georgia announced their departure.
