Venezuelan government officials captured a Colombian member of the Rastrojos paramilitary group in the state of Táchira, the Protector of this state, Freddy Bernal, said on Monday.
Sauro Jesus Batista (alias El Negro) was found carrying ammunition and with clothing from Colombia's military forces in his possession, as well as a notebook with information about the paramilitary organization, Bernal said.
He also pointed out that during the procedure, an observation post of the criminal Colombian group was located on a road leading to the Rio Grita, in the border area.
The protector of Tachira announced that during this operation an abandoned vehicle was found, which was transporting two adapted fuel tanks with capacity of 2,875 liters of gasoline for smuggling fuel into Colombia.
Bernal congratulated the head of the Strategic Integral Defense Region, Guillermo Guzman, and Major General Angel Moronta, who carried out the work as part of the Venezuela Sovereignty and Peace operation, initiated September 10, to safeguard security on the border.
Recently, the Venezuelan Public Prosecutor's Office opened an inquiry against Juan Guaidó - a member of the National Assembly (parliament in contempt), recognized by the United States and its allies as 'interim president' of the country - following the revelation of a series of photographs in which several members of the criminal group Rastrojos pose alongside the opposition leader.
In this sense, President Nicolas Maduro said that Alvaro Uribe - president of Colombia in the periods 2002-2006 and 2006-2010 - who ordered the Rastrojos to take charge of the protection of Guaido in Colombia, also participated in these events.
