A total of 520 megawatts (MW) will be incorporated this Tuesday into Bolivia's National Interconnected System with the combined-cycle expansion of the Warnes power plant, Santa Cruz department.
The work inaugurated by President Evo Morales will cover the energy demand of cities and industry in the east of the country, representing an investment of 639 million dollars that, in its first stage, consumed 50 million cubic feet per day of natural gas for an output of 200 MW.
The second stage of the project completed on Monday consists of the supply, assembly and commissioning of two new combined-cycle blocks, two SGT-800 gas turbines with an SST-400 steam turbine, and two SST-400 steam turbines.
In addition, incorporated into the national electricity system were four 53 MW gas turbines imported from Sweden, four 54 MW steam turbines from Brazil, eight 53 MW electric generators from Germany, eight steam generators from the Netherlands, eight power transformers, four wet cooling towers and a demineralized water treatment plant.
Morales recalled that the economic growth has permitted the improvement of social and productive areas, while ratifying as one of the responsibilities of the State 'to guarantee not only electricity and gas energy, but also water so that new entrepreneurs can install their industries.'
He highlighted the execution this year of energy projects in Cochabamba and Tarija with the implementation of 1,171 MW.
He set out that other initiatives with the use of clean energy such as solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric sources, alongside the Warnes combined-cycle, required investment of 2.521 million dollars.
