Hurricane Juliette reaches category 3 and favors the rains in western Mexico

Hurricane Juliette reached category 3 in the last hours and despite being very far from the Mexican coast, it favors rains in western Mexico, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported on Tuesday.

"Its cloud bands reinforce the potential for rains in western Mexico and in Baja California Sur," said the Meteorologist in his most recent bulletin, at 4.15 local time (09.15 GMT).

The cyclone is located 710 kilometers southwest of Cabo San Lucas, in the northwestern state of Baja California Sur.

As a result, the SMN urged “extreme precautions to the general population in the areas of the states mentioned by rain, wind and waves (including sea navigation) and to comply with the recommendations issued by the authorities of the National Civil Protection System , in each entity ».

In the next few hours, the Meteorological estimates that the hurricane will reach category 4, when it is 750 kilometers southwest of Cabo San Lucas.

Subsequently, it will lose strength and throughout the week it will stop being a hurricane and will degrade to a tropical storm.

Juliette formed on Sunday and is the tenth tropical cyclone that is generated in Mexican Pacific waters in the current season after Alvin, Barbara, Cosme, Delilah, Erick, Flossie, Gil, Henriette and Ivo.

None of these ten cyclones have had an impact on Mexico, developing far from national coasts.

However, Ivo did cause heavy rains in states such as Sinaloa and Baja California Sur, in northwestern Mexico, causing flooding in some towns and the suspension of school activities in some regions.

During the hurricane season, which began on May 15 and officially concludes on November 15, 19 cyclones are expected to form in the Pacific.

While Juliette advances in the Pacific, which is not causing major effects, Hurricane Dorian continues its route in the Atlantic, which has already left enormous damage in the Bahamas and could land in Florida, in the United States.
