A new Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) report published this Thursday warned that the populations of 41 nations are facing high levels of food insecurity, due to conflicts and adverse weather conditions.
The quarterly FAO report 'Crop Prospects and Food Situation' warns that millions of individuals in these countries need external food aid.
The list of affected nations, including 31 in Africa, has remained unchanged in the last six months, and about half of all countries in need of aid are the scenes of civil unrest or conflict, such as Burundi, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen and parts of Myanmar and Nigeria, as detailed by the report.
It also indicated that many other nations are facing a severe shortage of resources due to the large influx of refugees from neighboring countries.
Similarly, the lack of rainfall, which includes a severe drought in East Africa, worsens the food insecurity situation in several nations in the region.
