China uses internet benefits to reduce poverty

China is currently using the benefits of the internet and new technologies in its poverty alleviation programs, a government priority to be completed by 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) reported.

According to a NDRC guideline, the Chinese government will enhance the use and greater coverage of the internet in impoverished regions of the country.

According to the document, mobile networks will be expanded and the progress of Big Data, the Internet of things (digital interconnection of everyday objects) and artificial intelligence will be used to improve people's lives, with new jobs in agriculture development.

The government will support e-commerce in rural areas and also remote medical services and online education, the text says.

China is engaged in the final phase of the fight against poverty, as it aspires to establish a modestly well-off society by late this century.
