Venezuela to review in depth relations with United States Government

Caracas, 18 Jul. AVN.- Venezuela's Foreign Minister Samuel Moncada announced Tuesday that the Venezuelan government will thoroughly review relations with the United States after the U.S. threatened to apply "strong and prompt" economic sanctions against the country if the National Constituent Assembly, whose elections will be held on July 30, is seated.
"By instruction of President Maduro we will make a profound revision of the relations with the United States because we will not allow humiliations of other countries," he said from the Foreign Ministry in Caracas, after reading a statement in which Venezuela repudiates the intervention of the White House.
Moncada said this threat leaves "a dark day in relations" not only between the United States and Venezuela, but also with Latin America. In addition, he accused Donald Trump's government of initiating another stage of economic and unilateral sanctions against the country.
"The Trump government is breaking down all international law and acting unilaterally against the voice of a people who participated massively in the electoral trial. This is a sign of their absolute bias towards violent sectors of the Venezuelan right," he said, calling on the Venezuelan people and diplomats in the world to unite in defense of the country.
Minutes before these statements, Moncada read the official communique in which the Venezuelan government asserts that the United States, with its threat to apply sanctions, shows without shame "its absolute bias towards the violent and extremist sectors of Venezuelan politics, in favor of the use of terrorism to overthrow a popular and democratic government."
"The moral ruin of the Venezuelan opposition has dragged President Trump to commit an open aggression against a Latin American country. We do not know who could have written, let alone authorized, a communique with such conceptual and moral poverty," the text reads.
The Executive believes that the "thin democratic veil of the Venezuelan opposition has fallen" and also reveals "the brutal interventionist force of the U.S. Government, which has been behind the violence suffered by the Venezuelan people in the last four months."
Therefore, he called on the peoples of the region and the world to "understand the magnitude of the brutal threat contained in this imperialist communique and to defend sovereignty, self-determination and independence."
The national government reiterated that the call for a Constituent Assembly is enshrined in the Constitution and it is up to the Venezuelan people to deal with this matter.
