BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in exercise of the powers conferred by articles 254 and 267 of Venezuela's Constitution and articles 2 and 3 of the Organic Law of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice, issues this statement to national and international public opinion:
The Supreme Court of Justice, through the Constitutional Chamber, as the maximum interpreter of the Constitution is guarantor of constitutionality and legality of the country and rejects any action that threatens the institutional stability of the Republic and violates the due process, to which all acts governing the public power are to be subject.
We in this high court, reject the actions of a sector of the National Assembly that tries to erode the political, democratic stability and the constitutional order of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
This sector, which remains in contempt of court, persists in ignoring provisions of Article 265 of our Constitution that expressly demands the concurrence of two of the branches of the Public Power to proceed with the removal of Magistrates and Judges of the Supreme Court of Justice, following a prior qualification for serious misconduct by the Citizen Power.
The civil servants of this Judicial Branch will continue to respond to the needs of our country in compliance with the legality and the prudent and strict interpretation of our Magna Carta, in order to preserve our people's calm and peace.
We categorically reject any action that seeks to delegitimize performance of Magistrates of the Constitutional Chamber, who have acted in compliance with constitutional mandates in defense of democratic order and social peace.
We urge the national legislative body to comply with the Constitution and laws to preserve the rule of law in order to safeguard independence and autonomy of the Public Powers.
We make our own the words of Pope Francis and call on dialogue as the only way to preserve peace, always within the framework of national sovereignty.
In Caracas, on April 4th 2017. 206th Year of Independence and 158th of the Federation.
