Caracas, 28 Abr. AVN.- Venezuela will denounce the interventionist actions against its independence and the violence promoted by an opposition sector to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), in an extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers to be held on Tuesday, May 2 in El Salvador.
At this urgent meeting requested by Venezuela and convened by El Salvador as CELAC Pro Tempore President, the Bolivarian Government will denounce threats against its democratic constitutional order, that left 27 people dead in street riots called by an opposition sector that uses violence as a political motive.
The violence is compounded by the push for an intervention led by the opposition coalition MUD and the current board of Parliament with support from the Organization of American States (OAS). The purpose of this is to create a climate of ungovernability favorable to foreign intervention.
On April 25, Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez announced the holding of this extraordinary meeting in which "threats against the constitutional democratic order, as well as the interventionist actions that have been deploying" against the country will be exposed.
According to the CELAC Organic Procedure, the foreign ministers of the bloc will meet regularly twice a year, and extraordinary meetings may be convened if necessary at the request of a member state, in this case of Venezuela.
Among the powers of CELAC Foreign Ministers is to adopt resolutions and issue pronouncements on regional or international issues of interest to the countries of the region.
The CELAC is made up of 33 countries and aims to deepen the political, economic, social and cultural integration of the countries of the region, as well as to discuss threats to a member state.
This mechanism was established during the Summit of the Latin American and Caribbean Unit (CALC) in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on February 23, 2010, and put into operation on December 3, 2011 at the Founding Summit of Caracas.
