AVN.- Venezuela's Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez said Wednesday that Venezuela will present the Letter of Denunciation of the Organization of American States (OAS) on Thursday, the first step to begin its withdrawal from the international body.
"Tomorrow, as President Nicolas Maduro has instructed, we will present the Letter of Denunciation to the Organization of American States and we will initiate a procedure, which takes 24 months," said the Venezuelan diplomat at the Miraflores Presidential Palace, in Caracas.
"Venezuela will not participate in the future of any activity, any event, where the issue of interventionism and interference by this group of countries is a priority on the agenda that only seek to disrupt the stability, peace of our country," she added in statements to state media.
These measures, according to Rodriguez, are aimed at defending the sovereignty and dignity of the people, currently being attacked by interventionist actions promoted by the United States government and the continent's right-wing, that seek to undermine the country's stability and peace.
"The withdrawal of this organization has to do with the dignity of our people, of the Bolivarian doctrine that defends multilateralism," said Rodriguez, stressing that OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro, has reissued the interventionist file the OAS has carried out since its foundation, to support coups d'etat in sovereign nations and military invasions.
She pointed out that the OAS intends to re-issue the 1962 script, when the organization expelled Cuba, because the nation responded to the interests of the people and not to the interests of the imperial governments.
On the other hand, she condemned the double standards of the OAS, which insist on addressing internal affairs of Venezuela, while overlooking other governments violating the rights of their peoples, as is the case of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.
"When we go and see what happens in our region, I wonder if this organization has no eyes to look at the terrible realities of discrimination, oppression, massive violation of human rights, not only of the people of our America, but also of the world, which occurs in the United States of America. The serious threats to world peace and stability are coming from these centers of power," she said.
"The reality that Venezuela lives today has much to do with the actions of these governments that, because of political and ideological intolerance, oppose not only President Nicolas Maduro but also the Bolivarian Revolution," she added.
Furthermore, Rodriguez said that the intervention actions of Almagro ended up isolating the organization from the international community.
"We gave the opportunities to impose the multilateralist spirit but it prevailed the violation to the sacred norms the organization," wrote the minister in her Twitter handle.
