Venezuela rejects threats from imperial powers against countries of the region

AVN.- Venezuela's foreign minister, Delcy Rodriguez, denounced a campaign of blackmail and pressure against her country within the Organization of American States (OAS), whose member states met Tuesday to address the situation of the country.
"We knew the plan they were trying to impose through blackmail, pressures, extortions. We saw two US congressmen coarsely, barbarously threatening member countries of this organization," she denounced at a press conference in Caracas.
She warned that despite the "forces that were deployed contrary to legality" and "the integrity of the countries", especially against Venezuela, peace diplomacy marked a victory at the OAS by curbing the ambitions to apply the Democratic Charter to the South American country.
"The day marked a victory for the Bolivarian peace diplomacy. We fought a battle, defended our homeland, defended the nation. We want to thank those countries that remained standing, which did not bow down to the pressures and blackmail that were imposed by Washington," she said.
Debate on OAS
During the press conference, the Chancellor stressed that Venezuela will launch a national and international debate on the usefulness of the Organization of American States in the development of peoples. "It is a debate that is open and we will take it to every corner of the country and to each regional area," she said.
Rodriguez said that the OAS, instead of promoting the development of peoples and guaranteeing peace in the region, has endorsed military and interventionist actions on the continent.
"We also know that the OAS remains conspiratorially silent about the massive violations that take place in the region. In the case of Venezuela, its silence has been rude regarding the decree of Barack Obama. Not to mention its involvement in the 2002 coup d'etat, I mean its inaction," she said.
In this regard, she repudiated the threats that from US centers of powers have been deployed against countries of the region.
On Tuesday, President Nicolas Maduro called the people to a great national debate to address the relevance of Venezuela in the OAS, following the violation of the founding rules of this body by governments of the region with the aim of attacking the country.
"I open the national and international debate on the violation of the founding charter of the OAS and the aggression of a group of right-wing governments against Venezuela and the pertinence of the Organization of American States, its validity and usefulness," he said during a working meeting.
