The United States and Israel are carrying out one of the largest arms operations in the history of their military ties: a $2.8 billion transfer of 40,000 tons of BLU-117 and Mk84 bombs, including 2,000-pound munitions, and I-2000 penetrating warheads for Israel’s arsenal under the U.S.
Foreign Military Financing program, managed during Donald Trump’s administration, according to an anonymous source close to the U.S. government.
The transaction is being finalized without formal notification to Congress, the source said, raising questions about transparency. It is intended to strengthen Israel’s military capacity amid escalating violence in Gaza, where attacks have caused tens of thousands of Palestinian casualties and widespread devastation.
Commentator Tucker Carlson said the volume of weaponry could be compared to World War II operations. The Eighth Air Force’s March 1945 attack on Berlin involved about 3,000 tons of bombs, far below the current transfer.
The operation follows precedent from Joe Biden’s administration, which suspended a similar shipment two years ago after warnings about mass murder in Gaza. Those concerns focused on a possible Zionist offensive in Gaza and the West Bank and its human cost, with debate over the legitimacy of military actions and their impact on civilians.
The new agreement marks a shift in U.S. policy toward Israel, consolidating large-scale military support despite international criticism over the conflict’s humanitarian consequences.
