Cuba Says the US Has No Real Interest in the 100 Million Humanitarian Aid

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez questioned this Saturday that the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and his “Department lack real interest in concretizing” the offer of 100 million dollars in humanitarian assistance offered by Washington.+

“It took them more than 6 months to finalize the total shipment of the first aid valued at three million dollars. Close to four months, to send a part of the six million dollars announced. How long could it take them to materialize the 100 million dollars?” Rodríguez pointed out on his social networks.

The US State Department announced in a statement last May that it reiterated its offer of 100 million dollars in “direct humanitarian assistance to the Cuban people, which would be distributed in coordination with the Catholic Church and other independent and reliable humanitarian organizations.”

The letter also indicated that the decision to receive such assistance fell to the Cuban Government, which had to choose between “accepting the offer or rejecting vital and crucial aid” for the island.

In this sense, the Cuban Foreign Minister stressed today that the Cuban Government “does not reject or hinder aid that is offered without conditions, however cynical and ridiculous it may seem.”

In turn, he questioned the significance for the island of the 100 million dollars offered by the United States, “when its economic blockade and energy siege cause annual damages of more than five billion dollars,” Rodríguez affirmed.

“So much lying and delay only demonstrate the marked propaganda nature of these announcements. Wouldn’t lifting the illegal energy blockade be more humane?” he continued.

USA puts pressure on the island’s government; and as part of this escalation, in addition to the oil blockade, it has imposed reinforced sanctions against vital sectors of the economy.
