Survey shows no fraud, says senator in Bolivia

The most recent poll that places the presidential candidate for the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), Luis Arce, leader in the intention to vote shows that there was no electoral fraud, Senator Adriana Salvatierra said Monday.

According to the results of the poll published the day before by the research firm CiesMori, Arce has 31.6 percent of those polled, leading his closest rival, Carlos Mesa, the candidate for Citizen Community, by 14.5 points.

'Right now, looking at this survey, you cannot believe the issue of fraud, because currently the survey gives Comunidad Ciudadana 17 points and they are nine points behind the first CiesMori survey presented on July 22,' Salvatierra stressed in an interview with the program Uno Decide 2020, on the Red Uno television channel.

The MAS senator recalled that last July that political party had 37 percent and, with the current result, there was no alleged fraud in the general elections last October 20, as denounced by the Organization of American States (OAS) in a preliminary report.

Ex-president Evo Morales won the election with 47 percent of the votes, but the OAS announcement served as a pretext for the Bolivian right to generate a political crisis that led to the resignation of the Aymara leader on November 10.

The repression unleashed in the streets between the demonstrators opposed to the coup d'état and the police and military forces defending the coup regime left around thirty dead, hundreds of wounded, more than a thousand people arrested and considerable material damage was recorded.

On the other hand, the president of the current de facto government and candidate for the Juntos alliance, Jeanine Añez, has the support of 16.5 percent of those polled, while the rest of the candidates are below 10 percentage points in terms of voting intentions, according to the survey.
