WikiLeaks reveals U.S. interest in Venezuela is oil

Caracas, 04 Ago. AVN.- WikiLeaks recalled in its Twitter account that the greatest interest that has been pursuing the United States in Venezuela for decades is oil.
"What is the #1 U.S. interest in Venezuela? If the classified history of the U.S. State Department is a guide, oil," the organization posted, according to Russia Today news outlet.
The WikiLeaks tweet refers to a declassified cable of several decades ago that determined politics and "the basic U.S. interests in Venezuela," the country with the world's largest oil reserves.
According to the document, Washington's interest is that "Venezuela continue to supply a significant
portion of our petroleum imports and continue to follow a moderate and responsible oil price position in OPEC." An approach that does not seem to have changed significantly today.
This week oil prices have risen due to signs of a slowdown in U.S. production and the possibility that the U.S. imposes sanctions on Venezuela, an OPEC member country, in response to the election results for the National Constituent Assembly.
