Opposition parties have no defined strategy for regional elections

After calling to ignore the Venezuelan institutions and the Electoral Power for 120 days, since early April, the Venezuelan opposition decided to participate in regional elections. They now take the democratic path without strategies on possible alliances to conquer some governorships.

The list of candidates registered in the National Electoral Council (CNE) –chaired by president Tibisay Lucena– representing the various opposition political organizations is long. They are 196, and the opposition parties, most of them of long standing, converge in the great majority of states, and none in Amazonas state.

Such is the case of Accion Democratica and Primero Justicia. Both named candidates in 22 states, and happened to meet the Avanzada Progresista party in 20 of them, considering that the latter did not nominate any candidate in Portuguesa and Zulia states; while they will come across with the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) party in the states of Anzoategui, Apure, Aragua, Barinas, Cojedes, Delta Amacuro, Falcon, Guarico, Lara, Miranda, Monagas, Nueva Esparta, Portuguesa, Sucre, Tachira, Trujillo, Vargas and Yaracuy.

In the case of Voluntad Popular –one of the parties that took the lead in initiating the violent strategy undertaken by the opposition coalition (MUD) during the last three months to overthrow the constitutional government of Venezuela– will have to contend with the said parties in the states of Apure, Aragua, Bolivar, Carabobo, Falcon, Guarico, Lara, Merida, Nueva Esparta, Portuguesa, Sucre, Trujillo, Vargas and Yaracuy.

The same thing happens with the previous political organizations before parties like Nueva Vision para mi pais (NUVIPA), they will have to contend in 19 states; Un Nuevo Tiempo in 18 states; Copei, in 17 (that did not nominated any in Anzoategui, Apure, Delta Amacuro, Merida and Portuguesa); Independientes por Venezuela (IPP), in 14 states; Unión y Entendimiento party in 14 as well; and with the Socialist Party Organized in Venezuela (PSOEV), in four states.

Faced with this fabric that opposition parties provided for governorships, there are those who embrace the idea of holding primary elections and then go with the same card, as Primero Justicia candidate for Zulia's state government, Juan Pablo Guanipa, said on Tuesday in a interview with state media.

Along those same lines, Alfonso Marquina announced Tuesday through a video posted to his Twitter account that he has decided to decline his candidacy to the government of Lara state to "facilitate the unitary process."
